9th September 2020Charlotte calls for more COVID-19 testing in Warrington
10th September 2020The 10th September is World Suicide Prevention Day. On average, 14 lives a year are lost to suicide in Warrington and suicide is the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK.
Charlotte said: “It’s an issue I am only too aware of, having spoken previously about having experienced so-called “suicidal ideation” at various points in my life in the past- I hope in being open about this I can help to chip away at the stigma that stops others from seeking help before it is too late, and to show that it is an issue that can affect anyone of any age and any background. It is easy to think at your lowest that things will never get better, but they will. You matter, the people in your life would not be better off without you, and you do have other choices. We talk a lot about mental health and suicide awareness, and this is incredibly important. But awareness isn’t enough- we need to make sure the resource is there in our health service to support everyone who needs it more proactively, before less severe mental health issues escalate into a crisis episode. I will continue to push at every opportunity in Parliament and outside for increased funding for mental health support, particularly as we expect demand to increase significantly over the next few months. If you are struggling with your mental health, please know that you do not need to suffer in silence. Help is available. Please save and share the contact details below for local support, so that no-one who needs help goes without it because they do not know it is there, and let’s look out for one another.”
