Charlotte visits the Old School in Fairfield
3rd September 2020Charlotte marks Woolston’s Church of the Ascension 50th anniversary with a socially distanced visit
3rd September 2020During the recess, Charlotte met with industrial services company Bilfinger at their HQ in Birchwood to discuss the urgency of progressing Sizewell C.
Sizewell C is a new nuclear build project, with its knock on effect creating many new jobs in Warrington’s nuclear industry.
Warrington North has already seen almost £200m of contracts from Hinckley Point C.
Charlotte serves as Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Nuclear Energy and is a member of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee.
Charlotte said:
“It was great to meet Bilfinger in Birchwood today, to discuss the urgency of progressing Sizewell C. Warrington North has seen substantial investment from Hinkley Point C, and the nuclear supply chain here would expect to see similar if not greater investment from future projects. New nuclear is vital for our local economy, jobs and skills.
“Securing this commitment to the next generation of nuclear from the Government will ensure that the nuclear and engineering construction sectors have the confidence to invest in training for the thousands of highly skilled UK jobs and apprenticeships necessary to see these projects through, at a time they’ve never been more needed.
“As we face the twin challenges of the post-Coronavirus economic landscape and rapidly decarbonising to avoid climate catastrophe, I will ensure in my role as Vice Chair of the Nuclear Energy APPG and as a member of the BEIS Select Committee, I use every avenue available to me to make the case in Parliament!”
