Standing Up For Workers' Rights

Recent talk from the Government suggests they are looking at cutting down some of our protections and rights at work. As a proud trade unionist Charlotte has committed to fighting for the rights of workers in Warrington and beyond.

Yesterday in the House of Commons she stood solidarity with the care workers employed by care provider Lifeways who are routinely underpaid when they take holiday. 150 of their staff, alongside their trade union UNISON, have launched a formal grievance to resolve this issue and they have my full support in doing so.

She also emphasised my support for a Private Members’ Bill from Liverpool Wavertree MP Paula Barker to end the legal loophole that stops care workers from earning the National Minimum Wage as part of sleep-out shifts. The procedures of Parliament during the pandemic has meant this bill has ended up on the chopping block. The Government must commit to bringing forward this legislation.

In the spring we all stood in front of our homes and clapped for our magnificent careworkers. It’s time the Government got real and started bringing immediate measures to improve their rights at work.
