Visit to Jacob's Nuclear Laboratory

I had a fascinating visit to Jacobs nuclear laboratory in Birchwood today, meeting a range of staff across operations, safety and decommissioning. The work that takes place here is absolutely unbelievable and we should all be proud of the expertise and innovation we have in Warrington North.

As Co-Chair of the Nuclear All-Party Parliamentary Group and a member of the BEIS Select Committee, I have been working hard since elected on securing policy and financial commitments from the Government that will ensure local nuclear employers like Jacobs can continue to grow. With almost half a billion pounds of contracts secured in Warrington for Hinkley Point C, new build projects including Sizewell C and Wylfa are enormous opportunities to grow these sectors and the high paid, highly skilled jobs they provide, with the benefit to our local economy and to third sector organisations they support.

Jacobs employ over 800 people in Warrington alone and are growing with hundreds of new career opportunities coming in the months ahead including for degree apprenticeship programmes.
