Despatch Box Debut: International Men's Day

Charlotte made her despatch box debut as Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities in the debate on International Men’s Day.

In her speech in the debate, Charlotte discussed the disproportionate mental and physical health issues faced by men as well as issues in education and homelessness.

Charlotte Nichols MP said:

“In this role I will continue to hold the government to account to build a more equal society for people in Warrington and beyond.

I am very conscious that we should not pit the issues faced by men and women against each other but aspire to raise outcomes where one is below the other.

From the tragedy of the rates of male suicide to health issues such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer, there is far more to do. There also crucial issues that need tackling, such as educational attainment and homelessness, which disproportionately affect men.

This is also the case for LGBT+ men, which is why it is travesty that this week the Government chose to scrap a £4m fund to tackle anti-LGBT discrimination in our schools.”
