PMQs – Charlotte raises issues surrounding mental health treatment

At PMQs today, I asked the Prime Minister why it’s okay that American, Canadian and Australian patients can access psilocybin assisted therapy for mental health conditions like PTSD and depression while it remains illegal in the UK due to Home Office inertia?

Every week I am contacted by constituents and their families in desperate situations with their mental health, and treatment options for many conditions are sorely lacking. This treatment could help give more people their lives back, and it’s shameful that we have individuals and organisations crowdfunding to take patients abroad for treatment they should be able to access here where it is appropriate. It’s time this policy brief was put under the Department for Health where it belongs, and where it can finally make some progress!
