Charlotte Calls For Support For Hydrogen Sector in Upcoming Spending Review

Last week the Prime Minister announced a ten-point plan on the environment, which included a commitment to developing the use of Hydrogen for energy.

This Wednesday (25th November), the Chancellor of the Exchequer will be delivering a Comprehensive Spending Review, in which he will set the budgets for all government departments and their relevant projects for the coming year.

Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols is calling for the Chancellor to put funding for Hydrogen at the heart of it.

The growth of the Hydrogen sector has the potential to create thousands of new jobs in Warrington.

Charlotte said:

“The Prime Minister announced a ten-point plan for the environment last week but this week the Government has the opportunity to put its money where its mouth is and give the necessary funding for Hydrogen.

We are already seeing hydrogen trains in development at Alstom in Halton, hydrogen for aviation at Airbus in Manchester, HyNet across the North West, and massive potential for development of National Grid's site in Rixton to support the expansion of the sector- all things that will create jobs locally, but the sector needs a proper strategy, properly resourced, by the Government to underpin it's growth.

In order to ‘level up’ communities like Warrington we need a proper industrial strategy, rooted in green technologies such as Hydrogen. As your MP I will continue to fight for us to get just that.”
