Charlotte calls for more COVID-19 testing in Warrington
10th September 2020Charlotte’s Speech to Peel Hall Planning Inquiry
15th September 2020During an Urgent Question on Coronavirus, Charlotte raised the issue of testing with Health Secretary Matt Hancock. Last week Warrington residents were being asked to go to Telford, with local availability few and far between.
Charlotte asked:
“In Warrington we have seen spiking numbers, with over 200 confirmed cases in the most recent weekly figures. Our rate is now the sixth highest in England, and we have real issues with demand for testing far outstripping local capacity. Can the Secretary of State outline what additional support he will give to Warrington Borough Council to increase our testing capacity, so that we do not have to go back into lockdown like our Greater Manchester neighbours?”
Matt Hancock responded:
Yes, absolutely. The hon. Lady is right to raise the concerns in Warrington about the increase in the number of people testing positive. I am happy to work with her, Warrington Borough Council and my hon. Friend the Member for Warrington South to ensure that we get the best possible response, including putting in that extra testing.
